So, is this the season when we should reflect on things for which we’re thankful, or is this just a season of gift-giving and countless advertisements for holiday sales? Well, it’s both of them. And, if you have a gardener in your life, you’re undoubtedly thankful for all of the good things that most gardeners do… sharing their harvests, making the world a prettier and better place, and caring for our environment.

Here are some gift ideas that will help you show your appreciation for the gardener, or gardeners, in your life:

Garden Cart

This is a great lawn and garden tool. It makes lawn and gardening chores easier. Look for one with a clever design… where you don’t lift the cart… you push down on the handles. This makes it easy to move even heavy loads because it’s balanced. And, it’s easier to unload, because you only need to lift the tub… not the entire unit! The only drawback is that it might not fit easily under the Christmas tree; but, it will sure fit into your favorite gardener’s shed or garage.

Electric Snow Shovel

Are you in a region where the forecast is for “more than average” snowfall this winter. But, even if the weather is “average,” there will probably be several snowfalls that will require some quick clean-up. Snow on the sidewalk might be pretty, but it just isn’t safe.

Garden Pen Knife

There are two things about the most pen knives that make it extra special: they are stainless steel, so they won’t ever rust; and, they have lots of useful parts, including both slotted and Phillips head screw drivers. Of course, a good sharp knife is always useful in the garden, too. Pen Knives are also useful for the glove compartment of the car.

Gas Can

It’s OK to admit, that a gas can doesn’t seem like a very exciting gift. But, it is perfect to store fuel for lawn and garden power equipment. They’re easy to pour and won’t ever rust. And, in case of any weather emergencies, it’s nice to know you have some fresh fuel in the shed or garage.

Mike McGrath’s Book of Compost

Former Editor-in-Chief of Organic Gardening and current radio host of the nationally syndicated “You Bet Your Garden” show, Mike McGrath knows compost. Equally important, Mike knows how to communicate. And, the man has a great sense of humor and a lot of practical gardening experience. Mike McGrath’s Book of Compost is a great book for anyone who wants to start composting, or for anyone who wants to learn more about making and using compost.

Have a wonderful holiday season, and show the gardener in you life how much you appreciate him or her!

The Mantis Electric Snow Shovel is designed to make cleaning up a light snowfall as easy as vacuuming a carpet.
