Nausea Causes and Remedies for Nausea Treatment

If you find yourself or a member of your family suffering from nausea, you may be able to find a remedy in your kitchen cabinet as opposed to your medicine cabinet.

There are a number of home remedies for nausea that have proven successful for generations. Many people in today's western societies are prone to rely on a medical doctor, prescriptions, or over-the-counter medications to treat nausea. But by utilizing home remedies for nausea, you not only save the time and expense of a doctor visit or a drive to the pharmacy, but you are usually able to treat the nausea more effectively and more quickly.

Here are some home remedies for nausea that may be useful:

1. Using coke syrup or any other non-carbonated soda drink syrup has a soothing effect on stomachs, primarily because of the heavy concentration of carbohydrates. Take one to two tablespoons and wait until the nausea subsides.

2. Fresh ginger placed in hot tea and sipped has been found to be among the most effective home remedies for nausea.

3. Ginger root capsules can also reduce the feeling of nausea, but in less time. Take one or two capsules and rest comfortably.

4. Mild herbal teas will often help with nausea. Try peppermint, red raspberry, or chamomile tea in small amounts.

5. For women experiencing morning sickness, try a combination of apple cider, vinegar, and honey. Mix one tablespoon of each with a glass of cold water and drink before going to bed. Many women have reported this natural remedy has helped them avoid morning sickness completely.

6. Nausea from morning sickness can also be treated with two or three teaspoons of wheat germ mixed with six to eight ounces of milk. Drink it about every hour until the symptoms subside.

7. Ground cumin seed is another approach found on any list of home remedies for nausea and vomiting. Take 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin seed upon first sensation of nausea, followed by rest.

8. Rice water has also been shown to help with nausea. Boil 1/2 cup of rice in one cup of water for about 15 to 20 minutes. Drain the water from the rice and let it cool to the point that it can be sipped like tea. Drink the rice water and you'll often discover the nausea leaves.

Of course, in administering these or any of the other home remedies for nausea, remember that nausea is often merely a symptom of some other illness or condition that is distressing your body. Although these and other remedies will bring relief from nausea, you should also be aware of the underlying cause. It could be as simple and insignificant as motion sickness, but it could also be from a more serious condition. If the pain does not subside, consider seeking help from your physician.
