Herbal Remedies for Headaches

Herbal Remedie

Headaches are a common ailment and we spend more than half a billion dollars a year on medication to treat them. Headaches are actually a symptom of something else going on in the body, so try to identify the cause. Common causes of headaches are dehydration, emotional tension, low blood sugar, allergies and mental stress, just to name a few.

There are many safe and gentle herbs that you can use to relieve headaches that do not cause the side effects that drugs do.

Here are a few herbal remedies you can try for your headache:

Valerian Tincture

Take 1/4 teaspoon every 30 minutes until your headache is relieved. This herb works well for stress-related headaches.

Headache Tea

Combine these dried herbs and make an infusion. Drink 1/4 cup every 30 minutes until the headache is relieved. Combine 2 parts lemon balm, 1 part feverfew and 1 part lavender.

Headache Herbal Nerve Formula

The herbs in this tea soothe the nervous system. Combine them and make an infusion. Drink 1/2 cup every hour until the headache is relieved. Combine 3 parts chamomile, 3 parts lemon balm, 1 part passionflower and 1 part skullcap.

Headache Blend

This blend also soothes away the tension and relaxes you. Combine and make into an infusion. Drink ¼ cup every 30 minutes until the headache is relieved. Combine 2 parts lemon balm, 2 parts skullcap, 1 part chamomile and 1 part feverfew.

If you have recurring headaches, be sure to look for the underlying cause and correct it. Sometimes it is as simple as a food allergy that you can avoid, or it could be other causes like poor digestion, reactions to chemicals, pollen or mold.
