Are you a fan of Muesli but sometimes find it too nutty, too sweet, not enough fruit or just too expensive?
Well the good news is that you can easily make your own custom to taste muesli for less than you would pay in the super market. With more of what you like and less of what you dislike, you can quickly and easily concoct the perfect personalised breakfast blend and what’s more, there are some alternative serving suggestions.
There maybe a little experimentation at the outset to find your perfect mix, but once fine tuned, you’ll have the perfect muesli blend to enjoy morning after morning. And don’t forget, it’s not all about taste; a good blend of muesli can go a long way to providing many of the vitamins, minerals and oils that make for a healthy diet.
To get the best value for money, its worth shopping around for bulk ingredients such as nuts, seeds and fruit. These can usually be found in stores like Holland & Barrett and Julian Graves or bought online.
All you need to make the perfect muesli mix are:-
– Porridge oats
– mixed dried fruit of your choice, such as raisins, sultanas, dried apricots, dates, prunes
– Nuts of your choice, straight from the bag or lightly toasted in the oven if you have time
– Wheat flakes are optional depending on taste
– Seeds, such as pumpkin, sunflower, sesame or flax
If you prefer, you can select the organic versions of the above ingredients over the cheaper non-organic versions.
As an alternative to the more traditional muesli and milk try soaking your home blended muesli in freshly squeezed orange juice overnight then serve with yogurt. For an additional twist, grate a fresh apple over the muesli and stir for a fresh fruity taste – Sit back and enjoy.
