Daily Dental Care Tips
It is a commonly known fact that the most efficient method for prevention of diseases of the teeth and gums is good daily oral hygiene.
Caries is one of the most common tooth diseases, in which there is a gradual destruction of the hard tooth tissue, which results in a formation of a cavity. This not only makes our teeth ugly, but it also causes pain and discomfort. Furthermore, it may be a cause for the development of dangerous diseases. It is known that more than 90% of the world’s population suffer from caries diseases today. A curious fact is that the Eskimos and the inhabitants of the southern parts of the Pamir Mountains do not suffer from this disease. However, the reasons for this are not yet known.
What can we do in order to keep our teeth healthy thanks to our daily dental care?
Rule Number One: Hygiene
Dentists constantly repeat that regular and proper dental care is a guarantee for healthy teeth. The practice shows that the daily care of your teeth and gums reduces the need of professional treatment by 75-80%. The key is not only in the quality of your toothbrush and toothpaste, but in the total range of action for oral hygiene that have to be performed every day. Do not forget to brush your teeth at least twice a day, and use a string for cleaning the spaces between them. Do not forget to visit your dentist regularly.
Rule Number Two: Building Proper Eating Habits
There are two main factors of anti-caries diet – eating healthy foods and moderate consumption of carbohydrates. In normal three meals per day you should eat foods that belong in the four basic groups – bread, dairy products, meat and fruits and vegetables. There are also some foods that are known as natural teeth cleaning means, such as raw apples, carrots and other hard fruits and vegetables.
Try to consume the foods that are rich of carbohydrates wisely, because they are a risk factor for the occurrence of caries. Calcium is the main building material of our teeth. It is found in most nuts, green vegetables, milk and all diary products.
Rule Number Three: Food Temperature
Remember that too hot or cold food is very harmful for your teeth. Even more harmful is the sudden change in the temperature of the products you eat, because it causes the formation of some microscopic cracks in the enamel of the tooth.
Rule Number Four: Take Care of Your Gums
Remember that you should pay attention not only to your teeth, but also to your gums. The gums protect our mouth from germs and therefore also require special care. Bleeding and gum inflammation is one of the most common causes of teeth loss and bad breath. Poor oral hygiene, smoking, the specificity of food consumed and the lack of vitamins can cause some unpleasant and dangerous gum diseases. So, do not forget to be careful to them, too.
Rule Number Five: Fluorine
Fluorine is an essential element for our teeth. Today in the market there are a lot of products that contain a large amount of fluoride: toothpastes, multivitamin complexes, elixirs, chewing gums, etc. Make sure you use these means in your daily dental tooth care in order to prevent some tooth diseases. Of course, you should not forget the fact that excessive number of fluorine may cause harm to your body.
Rule Number Six: Do Not Forget to Visit Your Dentist Regularly
This rule may not belong to our daily dental care routine, but it is extremely important if you want to have healthy teeth. Let’s not forget the fact that the professional dental cleaning done by your dentist removes tooth plaque, which you can’t do with your toothbrush at home; and the caries, which is found on time will save you a lot of troubles if treated right away. Furthermore, your dentist may provide you with some essential tips about the right toothbrush and toothpaste you should use.
