Extraordinary Uses for Fabric Softener

The fact that fabric softener makes our clothing feel soft, infuses them with long-lasting fragrance, lessens creasing and reduces static cling is no secret. But here are a few great alternative uses for this magic liquid, and we bet that you never knew about them!

It eliminates static carpet shock

That familiar but oh-so-annoying feeling of getting shocked when you walk across a carpet and touch another person or a metal object can be a thing of the past. Treat your carpet with a solution of fabric softener and water. Mix one cup of softening agent with approximately two and a half litres of water and pour it into a spray bottle. Lightly spray your carpet in the evening so that it can dry overnight. This anti-static treatment should be effective for at least two to three weeks.

It melts away burned-on grime

Burned leftover-stained casserole dishes no longer need to be scrubbed! Simply fill the dish with water, squirt in some softener, let it soak for an hour and the grime will easily wipe away.

It removes sticky hairspray residue

Ever tried to remove dried hairspray from surfaces such as your dressing table, window sills or walls? It’s not so easy! The solution: one part fabric softener and two parts water will help you win the battle. Stir the mixture and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray onto the sticky surface and wipe it off with a cloth. Voila!

It cleans glass and mirrors effortlessly

Cleaning windows, mirrors and shower doors can be quite a hassle, but not when you use fabric softener. Not only does it clean and shine, it also repels dust. Mix a solution of one part liquid fabric softener and four parts water and pour it into a squirt bottle. Apply a little of the solution to a cloth, wipe the surface and let it sit for a bit. Wipe and polish with a dry cloth.

It makes wallpaper removal easy

Have you ever struggled to remove old wallpaper? This tedious task can be simplified with fabric softener. Mix one cap of liquid softener in one litre of water and dab the solution onto the wallpaper. Let it sit for half an hour and you’ll be able to scrape the paper off the wall with ease. If the wallpaper has a water-proof coating, scratch it with a wire brush before applying the solution.

Besides softening your laundry and leaving it fragrant and static-free, there are many more handy uses for fabric softener.
