There are, however, several factors you have to keep in mind when starting your own strawberries in containers. Detailed below are some of these things:

Variety of Strawberry

Strawberries have many different varieties. Generally, they are categorized as ever-bearing and seasonal. If you live in milder climates, ever-bearing would be an excellent choice as it would grow strawberries throughout the year. However, it will not thrive well in colder climates, in which case, seasonal would be the better option.

Container

You also need to choose the container you’re going to use for this project. You have to keep in mind, particularly, the size and shape of containers in proportion to the space where you’re going to place the pot.

Just about any container with adequate depth will do as long as you can bore holes on its bottom to allow for water drainage. However, using pots specifically designed for growing strawberries would be the best. These are usually containers with side pockets. Not only is it ideal for growing strawberries, it also looks good as an ornament inside your house.

Soil

To grow the best tasting and high quality strawberries, you will need to provide it rich soil. strawberries prefer loamy type of soil with lots of organic elements in it. So you can add organic fertilizers in your soil mix. A 5-10-5 fertilizer will be a good choice in this instance.

Furthermore, once strawberries are planted, you have to make sure you fertilize it once a month with fertilizers high in phosphorus content. This will help the plant to flower. Once it starts to grow flowers, then you need to fertilize it every 10 days to ensure you’ll enjoy high quality yield.

Care

To ensure the proper growth of strawberries, you need to make sure that it gets exposed to sunlight at least 6-8 hours a day. If you want it to stay indoors where it doesn’t get the needed exposure, you can install an artificial light.

Furthermore, you also need to moderately water it regularly. Just enough water to keep the soil moist and damp would be good enough. Otherwise, if you overdo it, it might drain away the soil as well or the soil could be waterlogged. In both cases, could be fatal for the plant.
