After a high-stress day, nothing beats a warm bath to restore both your body and mind. But instead of sitting in a boring tub with no frills, why not design an aromatherapy experience like no other by adding essential oils? Cue some soft music and get ready to relieve whatever ails you.
But before sticking your toe in the tub:
• Buy only high-quality oils from established companies at your local health food store or online.
• If using a freestanding tub filler (such as the Delta Faucet Floor Mount Tub Filler) wait until the tub is full before adding oils; adding to running water will make them evaporate quickly.
• Mix essential oils with carrier oil, such as almond or aloe vera, or even shampoo. This not only dilutes the oils (full strength may be harsh on skin) but it also helps disperse them through the bath water.
• Be sure to speak to your doctor about using essential oils in the tub if you’re pregnant, have heart problems, high blood pressure, or any other medical concern.

Stress Soak Bath Recipe
Light a candle, turn off the overhead brights, and climb into your tub scented with one of these calming oils and mineral-rich salt baths:
- 5–10 drops lavender or sandalwood oil
- 2 tbsp. carrier oil
- 2 tbsp. sea salt
1. Fill tub with warm water.
2. Add the blended essential and carrier oils and salt (make sure salt dissolves).
3. Soak for 10 to 20 minutes.
