Homesteads and a Sod House

Early homesteaders in the plains states used the supplies at hand to build tight shelters for the severe winters they must endure. Since there were often no trees, they plowed up the native prairie sod where the Buffalo had so recently roamed. The author describes living in a sod house. She tells of a time that is long gone and will never return.
