The Life-Changing Results of a Full Facelift
A facelift can target the telltale signs of aging in the neck, cheeks, jawline and chin. This treatment tightens facial muscles and eliminates loose skin.
Reduces Wrinkles
As we age, the body’s natural collagen production decreases. When this occurs, the skin may develop loose and sagging areas. Over-the-counter or prescription creams can temporarily help, but there comes a point when the skin needs more than just a little boost. The results of a full facelift tighten the neck and facial muscles, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a smoother complexion.
Incisions made during the procedure are designed to be invisible, preventing the formation of visible signs that cosmetic surgery has been performed. A full facelift typically requires longer incisions than a mini or weekend lift due to the extensive work needed to reduce jowls and skin sagging.
The most common cause of bad facelift results is the unnecessary removal of excess skin. However, with surgical skill and experience, Dr. Rose works to preserve each patient’s unique features and to ensure that you will look like a better version of yourself, not unrecognizable.
A full facelift can be combined with other anti-aging procedures, including a brow lift, nose job, or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Combining these treatments can address multiple concerns to help you achieve your desired youthful appearance. A facelift can also be used with a fat transfer for a more noticeable and natural-looking result.
Tightens the Jawline
Many of our patients interested in facelift surgery are bothered by sagging jowls around the corners of their mouth and neck skin that feel loose and less youthful. A full facelift helps to tighten this skin and creates a strong jawline that looks much more youthful.
Our surgeons make small incisions within your hairline and ear during the procedure, then lift and tighten muscle tissue. They also elevate your cheek fat pads (malar pads) to give you the appearance of higher cheekbones. Finally, they remove excess fat and skin tissue, giving you a more defined, youthful-looking facial structure.
Liposuction, which reduces fat in the neck and face, is typically combined with a facelift. You must arrange to have someone drive you to and from your procedure since you will feel the effects of general anesthesia and prescription pain medications. You will need someone to help you take care of yourself during your first night home, and you may need to stay in a recovery room for a few days or even longer.
You can see your final results once the swelling and bruising have resolved. The result will be a natural-looking, permanent improvement lasting several years. However, it is important to remember that lifestyle habits, tissue elasticity and other factors can continue to cause the results to fade over time.
Rejuvenates the Neck
Patients often come for a facelift to address areas of loose skin, sagging, and wrinkles along the neck or jawline. These issues become more noticeable with aging, especially in the neck and lower parts of the face. The good news is this procedure can dramatically improve these areas by tightening loose skin and restoring muscle tone.
In addition to lifting loose skin, a full facelift can also reduce the appearance of fine lines around the mouth and chin. These are typically caused by repeated facial expressions, such as smiling and frowning. As the skin becomes tighter, these fine lines will diminish, and the face will look much younger and refreshed.
During this procedure, our surgeon usually starts with an incision along the hairline, around the ears, or in the crease behind the ear to access the skin and muscle tissue below. The surgeon will then reposition the muscles and tighten the skin, which may require removing or redistributing fat from the face and neck. The surgeon will then stitch or tape the wound closed.
After a facelift, you must rest for a few days to allow the incisions to heal properly. It’s best to plan for this and have a friend or family member who can assist with your recovery at home, particularly the first night. Apply antibiotic ointment to the incisions and avoid picking at crusting scabs.
Enhances Confidence
A full facelift will reduce the jowls that develop along the jawline and neck and the excess skin that causes a double chin. It will also sculpt and redistribute fat in the face and neck, as needed, to achieve your desired results. With surgical skill, these changes will be virtually undetectable, resulting in a younger, more natural version of you without an overstretched or “operated” look.
In addition, a facelift will help you look and feel more confident in your appearance. This will boost your self-esteem and make you more desirable to potential partners. You may find that you are more motivated to stay healthy and fit, as a more attractive person is naturally more likely to lead a healthier lifestyle.
However, this doesn’t mean you won’t have to put in some effort to maintain your new results. You will still need to continue with your daily skincare routine, including a regular regimen of facial peels, dermal fillers, and botulinum toxin, to ensure that your facelift stays looking its best. This will also help to extend the life of your results. On average, the results of a facelift last between 12 and 15 years. However, the longevity of your results will depend on various factors, including the type of facelift you choose, your age, and how well you care for your skin after treatment.
