Ingredients for Lip Balm and Recipes
Lip balm protects your lips from the harsh winters, pollution, scorching heat and variety of foods. Ever wondered what goes inside the lip balm to make it so tough. The Essential Ingredients
Lip balms essentially consist of paraffin oil derived from petroleum jelly. They also consist of fats, waxes and vegetable oils. The wax acts like a cover, while the vegetable oil softens the lips. The reason why these balms remain hard in summers is because they contain more wax than base ointment. The flavored ones are made from drop of essential oils and the colors are added through juices.
Lip Balm Recipe
Lip balms are very easy to make at home as the ingredients are easily available. The main ingredient required is beeswax, which is found dime a dozen at any natural food stores. If you like the flavored balms, buy the required essential oils too.
Lemon Lip Balm
The tangy lemon taste on your lips is a difficult temptation to resist.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp petroleum jelly
- 1/2 tsp. beeswax
- 3 drops lemon flavor oil
Directions
a. Melt the beeswax on a low heat.
b. Add the petroleum jelly into in it and stir the mixture until it becomes one.
c. Remove from the stove and pour the mixture into a suitable container.
d. Add drops of lemon flavor oil or essential oil into it and let it cool.
Peppermint Lip Balm
Peppermint feels fresh on the lips and gives your lips a shine.
Ingredients
- 1 oz beeswax pearls
- 1 oz mango butter
- 1 oz cocoa butter
- 1/2 oz. almond oil
- 1/2 oz. jojoba oil
- 1 oz. sunflower oil
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil (any kind)
- 1-2 teaspoons peppermint essential oil
Directions
a. Pour the beeswax in a pan and melt it over the lowest setting.
b. Then add the cocoa butter and mango butter.
c. Slowly pour in the almond oil and let the mixture heat.
d. Next, pour in the sunflower oil, jojoba oil and coconut oil.
e. Remove the mixture from the stove and pour it in tiny tins or tubes.
f. To give it a flavor, add drops of peppermint essential oil.
Olive Oil Lip Balm
Olive oil makes the skin soft and prevents it from drying. The olive oil balm will give a protective layer to your skin with a glossy coat like a lip gloss.
Ingredients
- 1 oz beeswax
- 1 oz olive oil
- 1-2 teaspoons total of ginger essential and grapefruit essential oil
- 1 oz cocoa butter
- 5-10 drops rosemary oil extract (ROE)
- 2 oz olive butter
- 5-10 drops of Vitamin E (Tocopherol)
Directions
a. Pour the beeswax in a pan and melt it over the lowest setting.
b. Then add the cocoa butter and olive butter.
c. Slowly pour in the olive oil and let the mixture heat.
d. Next, pour in the rosemary extract and vitamin E.
e. Remove the mixture from the stove and pour it in tins or tubes.
f. To give it a flavor, add drops of essential oils.
The aforementioned ingredients are easy to find and hence lip balm can be made at home easily. Lip balm can be stored for over a year and you can gift these to your friends as well!
