Treating Open Skin Pores
Skin pores refer to the small openings on the skin through which various skin secretions and proteins reach the skin surface. The hair follicles on the skin also appear through these pores. Thus, the skin pores are very essential part of the skin as they play an important role in bringing the skin secretions onto the surface and also by helping the penetration of the skin care products you apply on the skin. You must have heard many a times, that proper penetration of the skin care products into the deeper skin layers make the product more effective.
Distribution of Pores on The Skin
The number and size of the pores is genetically controlled but it might get altered through the lifetime owing to various reasons. Usually the concentration of the pores is more in the areas where we sweat more like the armpits, palms and soles of our feet. Considering the facial skin, maximum pores are found on the chin, cheeks and around the nose. People with oily skin have more pores than those with normal or dry skin.
Pimples, acne and oily skin make the pores appear larger while sun tan and cold winds make them appear smaller than their normal size. But these are temporary effects and revert back to the original when the skin becomes normal. You might have heard people complaining of scars due to pimples. This can again be related to the skin pores. When you prick a pimple or squeeze a blackhead, the opened pore beneath leaves a mark on the skin and appears as a small scar.
Care for Your Skin Pores
Being an inherited trait you cannot alter the number or size of the skin pores but there are options to control them from widening further and masking their appearance effectively. Certain astringents containing acetone or alcohol are believed to shrink the pores but the effect is again temporary. These are skin toners. They help by tightening the pores and making them appear smaller, thus giving your skin a smooth look. They also help improve the skin tone, by removing excessive oil and making it taut and supple at the same time. Therefore, when used regularly they prove to be very helpful.
Key Points to Remember
Those with excessively large pores should try and wash their face at least three times a day with a gentle soap. This would help avoid clogging of the pores with excess oil. Also those facing the problem of open pores should avoid using oil based products as this can further worsen the problem.
One case might be that your skin type gets changed from normal to oily with age and now you start having open pores. Toners are a solution for such a problem. They would help mask initially and revert the problem on regular use. If your original skin type is oily, then you can anticipate having open pores, pimples and blackheads. Therefore, precautions should be taken at very early stage. You can follow simple steps like regularly removing blackheads, using oil free products, using exfoliating face wash and washing the face twice to thrice daily. The above simple steps can help you the way through open pores to healthy and smooth skin.
