Achieve Glowing Skin with Homemade Recipes
Between chlorine from pools and the sun’s UV rays, summer can be a damaging time for your skin. But you can easily restore your natural glow with a popular secret ingredient among do-it-yourselfers for soft, supple skin and shiny, healthy hair — honey.
Honey needs no preservatives, additives, or refining, making it one of the few beauty products that comes straight from nature. A natural humectant, it attracts and retains moisture, while its mild nature also makes it suitable for sensitive skin and baby products.
“Honey is a key ingredient for enviable skin because it has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, meaning it can help keep with things like acne and anti-aging,” explains Shannon Bowden from Bee Maid Honey.
Here are two recipes to incorporate into your beauty routine.
Cucumber-honey toner.
Purée one medium cucumber in a blender and drain the liquid through some cheesecloth. Add two teaspoons of honey and mix. To use, shake bottle and saturate a cotton pad with the lotion. Sweep over face, neck and chest and let air dry.
Gentle honey cleanser.
In a small bowl, mix 1⁄4 cup honey, one tablespoon liquid baby soap, and 1⁄2 cup glycerin (found in drug stores). Pour onto a clean face sponge or soft cloth and gently rub onto face. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
