4 Homemade Spa Treatments with Citrus Fruit
Oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruit, our most prevalent citrus fruits, offer several benefits for our skin and relaxation. The alpha hydroxyl acids help exfoliate our skin the skin as well as having an antiseptic and detoxifying effect. Citrus scents are also very refreshing and relaxing. Just picture yourself lying in a nice warm bath with candles glowing and a nice cooling mask on your face. Here are some really great ways to use citrus fruit for your health and pleasure.
Relaxing Citrus Spa Bath
The easiest way for a great pampering bath is to grab two oranges and two lemons, cut them into slices and drop them into warm water, light a few candles and have a cleansing and refreshing soak.
Citrus Mask
For a great exfoliating mask, combine a papaya, the juice from a lemon and a teaspoon of honey in a blender and blend into a paste. Be sure your face is clean before applying the mask. Leave it on for thirty minutes (while you soak) and rinse. Your skin will feel smooth and glowing from the exfoliation of the fruit acids. Enjoy!
Milk Cleanser and Lemon Toner
To make a great toner, combine a teaspoon of powdered milk and a teaspoon of water in a small bowl and mix into a smooth paste. How easy is that? Apply to your face and neck in small circles while you massage your face. Rinse and dry and after squeezing a lemon into a container, apply it to your clean skin with a cotton ball. The lemon juice makes a great toner after your clean, non-oily milk cleansing.
Citrus/Almond Scrub
One of the best ways to exfoliate the dead skin from your face, elbows and knees is a scrub. Lemon juice and zest gives you an invigorating scent while exfoliating along with the other ingredients in this scrub.
You’ll need:
- 3 almonds
- The zest from 1 lemon
- 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon honey
Directions:
Grind the three almonds is a coffee grinder (make sure it is clean) or a food processor. Add the zest of a lemon and grind. Put the mixture in a bowl and add the teaspoon of lemon juice and teaspoon of honey. Mix together until you have a coarse creamy texture. Then apply mixture to your clean face, massaging in a circular motion to help remove dead skin and rinse with warm water.
One more thing I’ll bet you didn’t think of is using citrus to lighten your hair in the sun during the summer. The chemical reactions of the lemon with the sun helps to lighten it. You can also just simply exfoliate your elbows and knees with a half lemon, rubbing it on those rough spots.
