Mens Clothing Tips – Proper Care for Neck Ties

Mens Clothing Tips

Men sometimes have their lucky or favorite necktie. If you want to be able to wear yours for important events, then make sure that they look good as new and last for many years with proper care. Here are tips on how to keep your prized tie collection in good shape.

Proper Storage

There are special hangers for neckties or you can simply use an old fashion hanger. Always ensure that you do not leave knots overnight because this will leave a lasting wrinkle on the fabric.

Traveling with Neckties

Fold the necktie into four and slide it inside your suit jackets pocket when packing. Another option is to roll your tie and place it in the boxes we provided; you may insert those boxes in any corners of your baggage. You may hang your tie on the lavatory door before you shower because the steam will help a lot in relaxing your tie fabric.

Preventing Stain

A simple rule of the thumb is to put a napkin on your shirt collar for a sure stain-free tie.

Dry Cleaning a Tie?

This method is not advisable because most of the times, dry cleaners press the necktie, which will consequently press those brilliant rolled edges flat.

Removing Spots

Removing a spot on a silk necktie may be quite a challenge. If you get one, you need to dip a clean cloth napkin in a club soda or a little seltzer then dab away. If it is greasy, you may sprinkle a few talcum powder on the spot immediately and let the fabric absorb what it can. After a couple of hours, brush the residue with a clean soft cloth.

Tie Tacks and Pins

They do not only dress up the tie but also complement to the ties designs. Tie tacks are also responsible in keeping the tie in place. Although we love it for several reasons, we hate it at the same time because it leaves small holes onto the prized tie fabric. To avoid this, put the tie tack on the back through the label or fabric keeper then fasten it to your shirt. This way, there will be no holes in front and the tie will be kept neatly in place.

Conditioning and Re-shaping

For frequently-used and favorite ties, it is necessary to have a small hand steamer to take care of the wrinkles, typically form in that area of the fabric where the knot is made. If the necktie is worn about eight times for a specific period for example, conditioning should be done at least every two months.

Taking care of your neckties will give you several great years of class and style in the long run.
