Crafty DIY Candle Ideas
Candles are a great decorating piece throughout the year. They make wonderful gifts for a number of occasions from birthdays to gifts to mom. Plus, there are hundreds of creative DIY ideas that allow you to add a personal touch to candles and candle-holders. Whether you have a lot of time on your hands, or only a few minutes here and there, DIY crafting with candles is a great way to use your creative energy to design a table centerpiece, mantle decoration, or a sweet gift for someone.
Candle Holders
One of the most popular DIY candle ideas right now involves making your own candle holder. You can use practically any type of holder as the base for this project. Here are a few things that you might already have around the house, or be able to find at a thrift store for a fraction of standard retail pricing:
• Small glass vase
• Glass bowl
• Candy dish
• China plate or bowl
• Teacup
• Mason jar
These are only a few of the many things that you can use as you make your own candle holder. Whether you have a huge stash of crafting supplies at your house, or will have to make a special trip to the craft store, you may be surprised at how inexpensive it is to make a cute candle holder. All you need is ribbon, scrapbooking paper, or even a little bit of twine. Decorate the holders any way that you like and place a small candle in each holder. You might even consider using battery-operated tealights as an alternative to traditional candles. LED tea lights are a great choice because they can be used over and over again without burning down.
Centerpieces
One of the best ways to decorate for any time of the year is to make your own centerpiece for a dining room table. Round candles make great starters for a centerpiece. Choose a colored candle that is appropriate for the season and embellish it using flowers, ribbon, ornaments, and other bobbles that you have around the house or that you find at a craft store. You can even use dried slices of orange, lemon, or other fruit to make your centerpiece look really unique. To make the centerpiece even better, choose a fragrant candle that give off an inviting aroma.
Floating Candles
The look of floating candles is a classy way to add ambiance to a romantic dinner, or a casual get-together. All you need are some floating tea lights or small candles and a bowl full of water. If you want to get really fancy, place some colored flowers, marbles, or berries in the bowl as well. That will add a splash of color and festivity to your decoration. When you use battery operated tea lights, you can have the look of a flickering candle without having to worry about a real flame.
There are so many wonderful ways that you can use candles to decorate your home. From complex centerpieces and arrangements of flowers, to projects that are much simpler, you can use candles in your DIY decorating projects no matter how much experience you have with crafting.
